IVF and ICSI | Genova Fertility Centre

In this chapter we briefly explain what IVF and ICSI entail, what the difference is between these treatments and who is eligible for them. The interactive video below will help you prepare for your first consultation with the doctor or nurse. You can also pause the video in between and write down your questions in the video itself.

IVF in brief

IVF is one of the treatments used for reduced fertility. In vitro fertilization (IVF) literally means: fertilization in glass, and is also called test tube fertilization in the Netherlands. In order for fertilization to take place, egg cells are brought together with sperm cells in the fertility laboratory.

During a normal menstrual cycle, only one egg matures in the ovaries each month. In ivf treatment pakistan, hormonal stimulation is used to try to mature multiple (five to fifteen) eggs at the same time in order to increase the chance of success. A follicle is an egg sac filled with fluid in which the egg is located (see image). By means of a puncture, the follicles are punctured one by one and the fluid with the eggs is sucked away and collected.

The IVF Process

IVF involves several stages, each crucial for the successful fertilization of an egg outside the body and the implantation of an embryo into the uterus. The process typically begins with ovarian stimulation, where hormones are administered to the patient to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. This is necessary because not all eggs will be suitable for fertilization. Once the eggs are mature, they are retrieved from the ovaries in a minor surgical procedure called egg retrieval.

The next step involves fertilization. The retrieved eggs are combined with sperm in a laboratory setting. Fertilization can occur naturally, or through a process known as Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), where a single sperm is injected directly into an egg. The fertilized eggs, now embryos, are monitored for several days as they develop.

Who is eligible for IVF?

You may be eligible for IVF if you and/or your partner have:

Absence of Pregnancy Clinic in Noida for a long time without a cause being found. this time depends on your age and other factors;

failure to conceive after other treatments for reduced fertility, such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) or after fertility surgery;

failure to conceive after at least twelve donor inseminations;

severe endometriosis;

reduced sperm quality;

ICSI in brief

ICSI is not a stand-alone treatment, but a form of IVF. The majority of the treatment is the same as with IVF treatment. Only the laboratory part is different. With icsi treatment pakistan, the sperm cells are not added to the eggs, but one sperm cell is injected into each of the eggs obtained using a very thin glass tube (pipette). Once all the eggs have been injected, they are placed in a dish with culture fluid. This dish is kept in a culture incubator. Just like with IVF, you then have to wait for fertilization, so that an embryo can be placed in the uterus after a few days.
